Homemade Cough Syrup

  • 1 cup raw honey
  • 1 whole lemon
  • 1 teaspoon of crushed ginger

How to prepare:

Combine all the ingredients and let it simmer on a very low heat for about 15 minutes.

Be careful not to overheat the solution so you won’t lose all the nutrients there is in the honey. Aside from curing coughs this is also great for sore throats.

  • 1/2 cup raw honey
  • 1 cup onion freshly chopped

herbs of your choice: (ex: Cloves, Mullein or Ginger)

How to prepare:

Put the onion and herbs in a pot and add the honey to cover the onions.

Turn on the heat to the lowest and slowly simmer the solution. It is best to keep the lid on to keep all the nutrients inside. If you are afraid that the ingredients will burn just stir for a couple of times then put the lid back on. Simmer for about 20 minutes before straining and keeping it cool.

Using herbs are very important part in making homemade cough syrup since it has plenty of immune boosting nutrients that your body needs to get rid of the toxins and bacteria.

  • 1/2 cup dried elderberries
  • 2 tbsp. rosehips
  • 2 tbsp. slippery elm bark
  • 1 tbsp. fenugreek powder
  • 3 cups. water
  • 1 cup. raw honey

How to Prepare:

Put everything in a sauce pan excluding the honey. Turn the stove on the lowest flame and let it simmer until you can create a thick syrup. This can take about 20-30 mins. After that remove the solution from heat and let it cool for about an hour. After cooling strain the mixture then add the raw honey.

Elderberries is known to have immune boosting properties that is why it is really great to make a cough syrup out of it. while fenugreek increases the temperature of the body that causes the person to perspire to clear all the mucus inside. And rosehips are very high in vitamin C, so it is also an immune booster. The slippery elm soothes the sore throats you can develop when coughing too hard.
